Overview

Linkerd is a lightweight and open-source service mesh for Kubernetes, designed to manage microservices communication, improve observability, and provide enhanced security. As Kubernetes applications become increasingly complex, learning how to deploy and manage microservices at scale is essential. Linkerd simplifies these tasks by handling issues such as service discovery, traffic management, and monitoring without altering application code, making it an indispensable tool for Kubernetes environments.

This course begins with an introduction to the concept of service meshes, helping you understand their role in modern microservices architecture. You'll then learn how to install the Linkerd CLI manually and deploy an application with it. The course further covers deploying custom applications, such as Nextcloud, and injecting Linkerd to collect and monitor metrics. You'll also explore Flagger, a progressive delivery operator for Kubernetes, including the setup for Canary releases. Lastly, you'll learn how to inject proxies both manually and through annotations to ensure optimal service communication.

By the end of this course, you'll gain hands-on experience deploying and managing microservices with Linkerd, including traffic management, observability, and progressive delivery using Flagger.
